~I Don’t Really Need a Wish Right Now~

I don’t believe in wishes.  It’s not that I don’t believe in dreaming big, having high hopes, and “shooting for the stars”; but for more me, wishes imply that all you need to do to achieve a goal is to rely on luck; and I don’t believe in luck.  I believe in destiny.  That doesn’t mean I don’t believe in hope because sometimes hope is all we have to hold onto.  I believe in hope, high goals, but most of all I believe in the hard work required to achieve your “wish.”

Henry Hartman has been quoted as saying, “Success always comes when preparation meets opportunity.” The way I interpret this is you pay your dues, you work hard, you don’t give up.  You don’t allow your environment or nay-sayers in your life to get you off track.  You don’t let the uphill battle knock you down.  Basically, you don’t make excuses.  You take the hand you’re dealt and you make the most of it–you’re a soldier, in every sense of the word.

I also  believe when Life sees you’re ready, everything will divinely fall in place.  One may say, “what a coincidence” or “I got a lucky break“, but I prefer to believe that everything plays out the way it’s supposed to and when you’re ready, you’re rewarded.

The gentlemen you see below (Disclosure: I have to brag and say the big guy is a great friend of our family) are all admirable men.  All of them grew up together (brothers, cousins, friends) born of very humble beginnings.  All sons of immigrants who came to the U.S. to provide their children with a better life. Even though they are all in different areas of law enforcement, they all have one thing in common–determination & drive.  They all share the determination to overcome their challenges, to not be a statistic or product of their environment, and not use their challenges as an excuse to be complacent.  Nothing they have achieved in life was ever handed to them.  Each of them worked hard, sacrificed time from loved ones, became sleep deprived,  and yet still pushed through the challenges even when they felt like giving up.  Most important they prepared themselves for the day when opportunity came knocking.  They didn’t just sit around daydreaming and  ”wishing for the best” they DID their best and their best has paid off.

Thank you to all the Law Enforcement, for your commitment to protect our communities, to put your lives on the line for your community each day; and thank you to the families of these men and women who also sacrifice so much.

God Bless.

~4~

Meet my little buddy.  He’s about to turn four and couldn’t be more excited.  I wish I could be four again where your biggest concern is snack time and playtime.  Aw, the good life.

As a parent, four is such a challenging age for us.  Consciously, you know that your child is no longer a baby anymore, but in your heart they’ll always be your baby.  It’s exciting, yet bittersweet to see them turning into “big kids.”  I speak from experience;  I’m the type of mom who cried for two weeks when her first born started kindergarten and still cries every time they have a birthday.  I always feel like I’m on borrowed time - waiting for them to just spread their wings and fly.

And although we wish we could stop the hands of time and keep them little bitty forever; the beautiful thing is we can capture these types of moments and keep them as treasures forever.  One day we can look back at all the images of our babies and remember the times that were.  But in the meantime, seeing how big they’re getting is also a great reminder to slow down and enjoy all that raising children can bring.

Happy Birthday, My Little Buddy.  Slow down the aging process, will ya?  ;-)

~Happy Anniversary~

This is one of the most “in love” couples I know.  They’ve been together since high school and recently celebrated another anniversary–half their lives they’ve been together.  Wow.  Nonetheless, they still dote on each other like they were still dating–smooching here & there, hugging, just loving on each other.  In this day & age, where relationships come and go, I think it deserves much recognition and celebration for those couples who are able to weather the storms.  Happy Anniverary! May you celebrate many, many, many more.

~Good Things Come to Those Who Wait~

This family’s session has been a long time coming!  They booked me last Fall, but obstacles kept coming up causing us to reschedule.  I was so excited to see them today and finally photograph them.  All I can say is it was worth the wait!  Needless to say, this family is G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S.  Mom and Dad are stunning and so are their lovely daughters.   They were such a great group to work with; everyone was laid back and had fun.  Plus, they were such troopers fighting off the mosquitoes and Houston humidity.  Despite it all, I think they look pretty fantastic, don’t you?

Thank you for allowing me to capture your family’s beauty.  I hope these images will bring back some fun memories for all of you, as they will for me.  ;-)

~A Day in the Life of You~

Being “real” and capturing the essence of people is what I’m all about.  I love that I am able to  journal a moment in time for them.  My latest project is what I call, “A Day in the Life of You.” It’s a service I will now be offering that captures those real moments that happen everyday but we often take for granted–moments like the kiddos rushing to the door to greet Daddy, the kiddos playing with their toys and, well…just being kids!  How about Mom & Dad making dinner together?  Doesn’t happen at my house, but when your husband is a chef you get certain perks.

Today, I had the privilege to spend a day in the life of this beautiful family.  A family that has gone through huge ups & downs-challenges that most people will never face.  Yet, as Mom put it, “through the power of prayer,” and commitment to family they made it through.  Isn’t that what family is all about?  At the end of your life, when all is said and done, you probably won’t say, “Geesh, I wish I would have spent more time at the office; or if I could go shopping for that great outfit one more time.”  It will most likely be, “I wish I had more time with my loved ones.”  Relish those moments while they last.

May your family continue to be blessed and may your family bond continue to strengthen.  But most of all, thank you for allowing me to capture a Glimpse of your family’s Soul.

~Awesome Wonder - Part 2~

Last time I tried to photograph this gorgeous cutie pie, the weather did not cooperate.  So, we decided an at-home session would be better and she could be in her own environment.  Flash forward a few weeks and we  practically have a monsoon in Houston–attempt #2, no go.  So, can you imagine how pleased we were today when the day was as gorgeous as can be and beautiful natural light was flowing throughout the house?

I got to see my little friend for the third time.  She is still one of the spunkiest, most curious, and energetic baby girls I have ever met.  She reminds me a lot of my own children.  She is the the perfect combination of sweet and sass.

Mom is now expecting baby # 2 and I’m sure that Big Sister will be AWESOME with the new baby.  In fact, I know she will.

May all of you continue to be blessed with a happy, healthy family.  What else can one ask for, right?

~Angel Baby~

I spent some time this afternoon with the sweetest angel baby.  She has the most calm and gentle demeanor - what a blessing!  She was pure sweetness and made my job super-easy. :-)

She recently turned one, so Mom and Dad wanted to commemorate the milestone with a Glimpse of Soul session.   It’s a big occasion; one minute they’re turning 1, next minute they’re turning 5, and so on.  That’s what I love about photography; you get to capture a moment in time, so that it’s more than just a memory.  As parents, we wish we could freeze time.  With each year that passes, we ask ourselves, “where did the time go?”  It goes and it goes fast.  But if we slow down and savor these sweet moments and milestones, we can look back at our photographs and retrieve our memories of all the blessings along the way.   My goal and intention with my photography is to capture fleeting moments in time, so when clients look back they can remember how much their children have changed and yet how they remain the same.

Mom and Dad, thank you for the opportunity to capture a glimpse of your angel baby’s sweet nature.  It was a pleasure and  I wish you many more years of happiness, smiles, and sweetness from watching her grow.

~Happy Mother’s Day! A Gift from a Thoughtful Father~

Being a mother is often a demanding  job that is way too often underappreciated.  It’s so easy to take what moms do for granted;  I guess it comes with the territory.  We’re used to caring for everyone, loving on everyone and it does come naturally.  However, it’s nice to feel appreciated.  It feels good when someone takes the time to say, “Hey, I’ve noticed how hard you’ve been working and I appreciate you.”

With that said, imagine how impressed I was when I received a phone call from a dad who wanted to coordinate a special session for his wife’s Mother’s Day gift.  This wonderful man coordinated a session for their two daughters, went shopping for new outfits for them, did their hair, and snuck them out to our session.  He said he felt like a fish out of water, but he did it with love!!  He is one of the most patient and loving dad’s I have ever met.  I was so impressed by his kind gesture to show his wife that she IS appreciated.  She must be an incredible mother and wife.

Take some time to remind all the women/mothers in your life this weekend (every weekend, for that matter) just how much they mean to you.  The smallest gestures go a LONG way.  Sometimes, a simple “thank you” is all we want to hear.

Happy Mother’s Day!

~Beautiful Chaos~

I always tell people that my life is full of “beautiful chaos.”  I say this because I’m a Mom, wife, and run two businesses, a home to manage, and mouths to feed.  I have 3 beautiful children who keep me on my toes, to say the least.  I think most families can relate to the demands of trying to juggle EVERYTHING and wanting to be awesome at everything.  There are some days where I can’t even catch my breath because the dog needs to be fed, my husband is calling to ask me a question from the office regarding paperwork, my son needs a permission slip signed for his field trip, my other son needs lunch money (which I forgot to give him the day before and he ended up eating the sack lunch from the cafeteria - how’s that for guilt), and then the baby girl needs her hair combed but is fighting me all the way.  Remember those commercials, “Calgon take me away!”  Throughout the day, I feel as if the chaos will never be under control.  But then at the end of the day, when everyone is tucked in bed, safe and together under the same roof, I know that the chaos is nothing short of beautiful.  It’s this beautiful chaos that is full of those fleeting moments like when your hubby brings you flowers and it’s not your birthday, your son tells you that you’re the greatest mom ever for volunteering at school, your other son thanks you for the one-on-one time you had with him and the baby girl looks cute-as-can be in her piggie tails.  Those are the moments I live for which wouldn’t be possible without the beautiful chaos.

This morning, I spent some time with this beautiful family.  They are made up of 3 handsome and energetic young boys, a cute little dog, a gorgeous mom and a team coach dad, a lovely home, and most important lots of love — all results of the beautiful chaos.

Thank you for allowing me to come into your home and spend time with all of you this morning.  It was a privilege to capture a Glimpse of all of your Souls.
