~I Don’t Really Need a Wish Right Now~

I don’t believe in wishes.  It’s not that I don’t believe in dreaming big, having high hopes, and “shooting for the stars”; but for more me, wishes imply that all you need to do to achieve a goal is to rely on luck; and I don’t believe in luck.  I believe in destiny.  That doesn’t mean I don’t believe in hope because sometimes hope is all we have to hold onto.  I believe in hope, high goals, but most of all I believe in the hard work required to achieve your “wish.”

Henry Hartman has been quoted as saying, “Success always comes when preparation meets opportunity.” The way I interpret this is you pay your dues, you work hard, you don’t give up.  You don’t allow your environment or nay-sayers in your life to get you off track.  You don’t let the uphill battle knock you down.  Basically, you don’t make excuses.  You take the hand you’re dealt and you make the most of it–you’re a soldier, in every sense of the word.

I also  believe when Life sees you’re ready, everything will divinely fall in place.  One may say, “what a coincidence” or “I got a lucky break“, but I prefer to believe that everything plays out the way it’s supposed to and when you’re ready, you’re rewarded.

The gentlemen you see below (Disclosure: I have to brag and say the big guy is a great friend of our family) are all admirable men.  All of them grew up together (brothers, cousins, friends) born of very humble beginnings.  All sons of immigrants who came to the U.S. to provide their children with a better life. Even though they are all in different areas of law enforcement, they all have one thing in common–determination & drive.  They all share the determination to overcome their challenges, to not be a statistic or product of their environment, and not use their challenges as an excuse to be complacent.  Nothing they have achieved in life was ever handed to them.  Each of them worked hard, sacrificed time from loved ones, became sleep deprived,  and yet still pushed through the challenges even when they felt like giving up.  Most important they prepared themselves for the day when opportunity came knocking.  They didn’t just sit around daydreaming and  ”wishing for the best” they DID their best and their best has paid off.

Thank you to all the Law Enforcement, for your commitment to protect our communities, to put your lives on the line for your community each day; and thank you to the families of these men and women who also sacrifice so much.

God Bless.

{This is What Motherhood Looks Like}

You may recognize this gorgeous women from last summer.  Mom had booked me for a mini-session to photograph her beautiful daughter.  I was so excited when she called me back this time to book a full session for her whole family!  I had the opportunity to meet her handsome son this time too.

The whole family is a lot of fun.  There is a beautiful dynamic between Big Brother and Baby Sister and you can see the pride in mom’s face when she looks at her babies.  I chuckled at the way that baby girl wants to be a model and would direct ME!  :-)  Then I’d peek and see Mom joking around with her son.  You can also tell how much her boyfriend loves his beautiful woman and the awesome kiddos.  Overall, it was a wonderful afternoon.  Thank you, Mom, for allowing me to capture such beautiful images of all of you again.

And I can’t stop without asking, “Does she make motherhood look GORGEOUS?!?”

Keep doing your thing, Mama!

“Hey, Bruhdah…”

web403182010

“Bruhdah…hey, Bruhdah,” that’s how my 6-year old calls out for his “bruhdah” aka “brother.”  He’s been calling him that since he was 3 and I imagine he’ll always refer to him this way.  It makes me smile each time I hear him.

This afternoon I had the chance to spend some time with these handsome young men who are brothers/best friends.  It was funny to watch them tease each other and joke around.  I felt like I was catching a glimpse of how my boys will be in the future.  I realized that the dynamics of big brother/little brother never really change–older brother taunts younger brother, younger brother gets annoyed–all in good fun.  And beneath all the teasing, you can see the strong bond. As a mother of boys, when I think of the brotherly bond it gives me comfort to know that they will forever have each other, that they have a best friend for life, someone who will always have their back.   What an incredible gift!  Thank you, Fellas, for allowing me to capture memories of this awesome bond you share.

Mom, you “done” good. ;-)

~Family: Sometimes You’re Born Into It, Sometimes You Pick It~

Sometimes you’re born into family and sometimes you pick it.  I have the privilege of calling this special group of people, “family.”  Technically, we’re not related, but my heart recognizes them as nothing less than family.  What I love most about all of them is their deep, loyal commitment to each otherI love that Mom & Dad were high school sweethearts and still madly in love with each other.  Dad is forever trying to sneak a kiss from Mom.  She acts coy and you can see that she is still smitten with her hubby.  Together, they are raising some of the greatest kids I’ve ever met–funny & well-mannered.  If I had to pick one word that would describe this group of people, it would have to be “family,”  - mi familia.

It’s All L-o-v-e

Sometimes in life you meet people with whom you instantly click .  It’s effortless and feels organic from the get-go.  I can say this about my sweet friend whom I had the pleasure of photographing with her beautiful family.  Our friendship blossomed after discovering that we both share a passion for photography.  We often talk hours about shutter speeds, white balance, and our love for this art form.    Since she is a talented artist and photographer in her own right (www.christinaanglumphoto.com)  you can imagine the pressure I felt before the session.  Thankfully, she and her gorgeous family made it easy for me.

She and the hubby have been together for ten years and have formed this beautiful family and, as you can see, they make beautiful babies!  What touched me most is the sweetness between the siblings.  Big Brother is always looking out for Baby Sister and Baby Sister is always looking to see if Big Brother is nearby.  Then there’s Mom & Dad who flirt like they’re still dating.  What a privilege to capture that and tell their story with my camera.  My hope for all of you is that you always remain this happy.

Soulful Urban (Katy, Houston Family Photographer)

I was SO excited to do this shoot.  Mom originally hired me to photograph her daughter who recently turned 15 but then ended up booking a session for all her gorgeous kiddos. I’m so glad she did.  I was even more excited when I threw out the idea of an urban shoot in Downtown Houston because she was just as eager as I was to have it done there.

This family has to be the most fun, united, genuinely loving family I’ve ever met.  They have so much fun together joking around, making each other laugh.  They really kept me smiling.  The kiddos were great despite the Houston heat.  Thanks again for being such great sports.  And, Mom, thanks for trusting me to capture some fun shots of your beautiful family.

Peace, Love, Joy & Abundance!

She Has That Glow (Custom Photography, Maternity Session, Katy, Houston, Sugar Land)

I LOVE doing maternity sessions.  I just love the energy of a beautiful, confident, radiant pregnant woman.  Today, I had the pleasure of photographing this gorgeous Mama-To-Be.  If you recognize the little one in the last image it’s because she is the little one in my previous blog entry.  This time, it was Mom’s turn to get in front of the camera.  Now do you see where her daughter gets her good looks?  Simply gorgeous!!!

Proving Pregnant Women Are Gorgeous! (Children’s Custom Photographer, Maternity Photo Session, Katy, Houston, Sugar Land)

If this doesn’t prove that pregnant women can be gorgeous, sexy, and hip all at the same time then I don’t know what will.  This mama-to-be will be delivering any hour now!  We had to reschedule our previous sessions and finally today we were able to get the maternity session done.  I have to say, I wish I looked that great when I was pregnant.
