~4~

Meet my little buddy.  He’s about to turn four and couldn’t be more excited.  I wish I could be four again where your biggest concern is snack time and playtime.  Aw, the good life.

As a parent, four is such a challenging age for us.  Consciously, you know that your child is no longer a baby anymore, but in your heart they’ll always be your baby.  It’s exciting, yet bittersweet to see them turning into “big kids.”  I speak from experience;  I’m the type of mom who cried for two weeks when her first born started kindergarten and still cries every time they have a birthday.  I always feel like I’m on borrowed time - waiting for them to just spread their wings and fly.

And although we wish we could stop the hands of time and keep them little bitty forever; the beautiful thing is we can capture these types of moments and keep them as treasures forever.  One day we can look back at all the images of our babies and remember the times that were.  But in the meantime, seeing how big they’re getting is also a great reminder to slow down and enjoy all that raising children can bring.

Happy Birthday, My Little Buddy.  Slow down the aging process, will ya?  ;-)

~A Day in the Life of You~

Being “real” and capturing the essence of people is what I’m all about.  I love that I am able to  journal a moment in time for them.  My latest project is what I call, “A Day in the Life of You.” It’s a service I will now be offering that captures those real moments that happen everyday but we often take for granted–moments like the kiddos rushing to the door to greet Daddy, the kiddos playing with their toys and, well…just being kids!  How about Mom & Dad making dinner together?  Doesn’t happen at my house, but when your husband is a chef you get certain perks.

Today, I had the privilege to spend a day in the life of this beautiful family.  A family that has gone through huge ups & downs-challenges that most people will never face.  Yet, as Mom put it, “through the power of prayer,” and commitment to family they made it through.  Isn’t that what family is all about?  At the end of your life, when all is said and done, you probably won’t say, “Geesh, I wish I would have spent more time at the office; or if I could go shopping for that great outfit one more time.”  It will most likely be, “I wish I had more time with my loved ones.”  Relish those moments while they last.

May your family continue to be blessed and may your family bond continue to strengthen.  But most of all, thank you for allowing me to capture a Glimpse of your family’s Soul.

{This is What Motherhood Looks Like}

You may recognize this gorgeous women from last summer.  Mom had booked me for a mini-session to photograph her beautiful daughter.  I was so excited when she called me back this time to book a full session for her whole family!  I had the opportunity to meet her handsome son this time too.

The whole family is a lot of fun.  There is a beautiful dynamic between Big Brother and Baby Sister and you can see the pride in mom’s face when she looks at her babies.  I chuckled at the way that baby girl wants to be a model and would direct ME!  :-)  Then I’d peek and see Mom joking around with her son.  You can also tell how much her boyfriend loves his beautiful woman and the awesome kiddos.  Overall, it was a wonderful afternoon.  Thank you, Mom, for allowing me to capture such beautiful images of all of you again.

And I can’t stop without asking, “Does she make motherhood look GORGEOUS?!?”

Keep doing your thing, Mama!

“Hey, Bruhdah…”

web403182010

“Bruhdah…hey, Bruhdah,” that’s how my 6-year old calls out for his “bruhdah” aka “brother.”  He’s been calling him that since he was 3 and I imagine he’ll always refer to him this way.  It makes me smile each time I hear him.

This afternoon I had the chance to spend some time with these handsome young men who are brothers/best friends.  It was funny to watch them tease each other and joke around.  I felt like I was catching a glimpse of how my boys will be in the future.  I realized that the dynamics of big brother/little brother never really change–older brother taunts younger brother, younger brother gets annoyed–all in good fun.  And beneath all the teasing, you can see the strong bond. As a mother of boys, when I think of the brotherly bond it gives me comfort to know that they will forever have each other, that they have a best friend for life, someone who will always have their back.   What an incredible gift!  Thank you, Fellas, for allowing me to capture memories of this awesome bond you share.

Mom, you “done” good. ;-)

My Brother’s Keeper

My heart melted this afternoon upon meeting these little guys.  As soon as they walked up to me they greeted me with a hug–such sweet souls these boys have!  Makes me tear up just thinking about it.  The more I got to talking to them, the more they made me think of my own boys.  There’s something so beautiful about a brothers’ bond–the way big brothers show their little brothers the way, guide them, and school them on any and all topics.  Then there’s the way little brothers look up to their big brothers with respect and the desire to keep up with them, and also knowing that big brother’s there to protect him.  Plus, you have an automatic best friend!  My wish for my new little buddies is that they will always remain their brother’s keeper.

Happiest Baby in Town

This baby has to be the happiest baby in town.  From the moment I walked in this little guy was all smiles.  Mom and Dad did a great job keeping him smiling and giggling.  Their baby’s joy is equally matched by theirs.  Seeing this young couple with their first baby took me back to when my son was first born eight years ago.  I was reminded of the excitement that parents have witnessing and celebrating their baby’s milestones like rolling over, sitting up, their first tooth.  It’s such a precious fleeting time.  Continue cherishing the moments, Mom and Dad, and thank you for allowing me to help capture some of them.

Fresh From Heaven (Katy Newborn Photography)

Newborns are such miraculous little beings.  The innocence of a newborn coupled with the fresh from heaven vibes they give off are enough to make the toughest of guys tear up.  I love how they smell and the funny little faces they make.  The miracle of life never ceases to amaze me.  Parents sit around debating who they look like, who’s temperment they have, what they will be when they grow up.  It’s such a beautiful time.  I always encourage new parents to savor those fleeting moments that will be gone in a blink of an eye.

I was lucky enough to photograph this little guy who is two weeks old now.  Mom and Dad are over the moon with their little bundle of joy.  They are one of the few couples who didn’t know what the gender of the baby would be, so his arrival was a suprise.  You can imagine how happy Dad was when he heard the words, “it’s a BOY!”  That’s right, a boy–fresh from heaven.

No Sibling Rivalry Here (Katy Children’s Photographer)

You may recognize the handsome little dude in these images.  His Mom asked me to take some baseball pictures of him a few months back.  Well, this time it was baby sister’s turn to get in on the fun!  Aren’t they the cutest little pair of siblings?  Gotta love it.

Soulful Urban (Katy, Houston Family Photographer)

I was SO excited to do this shoot.  Mom originally hired me to photograph her daughter who recently turned 15 but then ended up booking a session for all her gorgeous kiddos. I’m so glad she did.  I was even more excited when I threw out the idea of an urban shoot in Downtown Houston because she was just as eager as I was to have it done there.

This family has to be the most fun, united, genuinely loving family I’ve ever met.  They have so much fun together joking around, making each other laugh.  They really kept me smiling.  The kiddos were great despite the Houston heat.  Thanks again for being such great sports.  And, Mom, thanks for trusting me to capture some fun shots of your beautiful family.
