“Everywhere I’m turning nothing seems complete. I stand up and I’m searching for the better part of me.” - Alicia Keys (SuperWoman)
Believe it or not, I’m not an optimistic person by nature. I would hardly even consider myself an optimist–but I desperately would like to evolve into one. I do, however, strive to surround myself with positive messages, energy, and people in the hopes that they will rub off on me. I’m a big believer in The Golden Rule, Karma, the idea that “what you give is what you get,” so you’ll often find me bombarding you with positive daily inspirational messages. I’ll let you in on a little secret though. Those are often the days that I am feeling the lowest; the days I need uplifting the most. My goal is when I put it out there, it will boomerang on back to me. To my delight, 99.9% of the time it works. It’s funny how life works.
One day, I was sweeping my kitchen, complaining (in my mind) about all the things I had to do, going over and over in my mind about how “tough” I had it that day. I was focused on all the stresses and challenges going on in my life. Then like a bolt of lightning, something told me I was being petty and reminded me of what I had seen a few days before. I remembered seeing a story about an incredible woman (gorgeous woman) who had been hit by a drunk driver and suffered severe burns to her entire body. Her face and body were completely disfigured and everyday she lived with pain. What struck me the most was when she went onto say that she only allowed herself 5 minutes everyday to feel sorry for herself and then that was it. She’d move on with her day and LIVE. The kicker? She said she felt “blessed” to still be alive because she knew she had been spared for a reason. All of this got me to thinking about all the other SupaWomen out there–women among us who who face incredible challenges in their lives and face them head-on with courage, grace, and determination; women who strap that cape on every morning and refuse to give up in the face of adversity; women who ARE afraid, but who push through the fear and achieve miracles. I want to get to know them.
So, the search for SupaWoman has begun and I’m going to need YOUR help. Tell all your family and friends to help me find her because I want to celebrate her. I want everyone to meet her and hear her story. Specifically, I am searching for women (in the Greater Houston Area) who have battled or are currently battling breast cancer with amazing courage, grace, and strength. I want to share SupaWoman’s story on my blog and I want to celebrate her.
The featured SupaWoman will receive a complimentary Glimpse of Soul Photography Session along with all her images. She will also have a professional makeup artist (who has done work for runway models, reality TV shows, and the Houston Rockets dancers) do her makeup before the session to simply enhance her natural God-given beauty. (I want her to feel at her very best and own her beauty that day.) Above all else, I want to capture a Glimpse of her Soul. Finally, because SupaWoman has overcome so much, she deserves to be pampered. For this reason, Mr. Mike Sellers, owner of Cinco Ranch Spa in Katy, TX (www.cincospa.com) has graciously donated a gift certificate so SupaWoman can be pampered at his fabulous spa!
If you’d like to help me, email me at eliza@glimpseofsoulphoto.com. You have this whole month to get the nominations in. The recipient will be featured in November. So start emailing me those nominations!

Boy do I have one…BUT she is an ovarian cancer survivor. Are you only looking for a breast cancer survivor?? If so I will save her story for your next search. She is an amazing woman, wife, mother of three and friend and I would love to honor her!
Please, by all means, nominate her, Cathy. I can expand the search for women who have also battled ovarian cancer. Thank you and I can’t wait to hear her story.
Ana Barron Garcia is definitely a Supawoman.
The moment you meet her you will know what I’m talking about.
She is the most bravest, kind-hearted, wonderful mommy and friend I know.
I have a friend who I would like to nominate but I should ask her first…right?
Hey, Jennifer, I’d love to hear your friend’s story. It’s your call on letting her know that you’re nominating her; It’s not required by me. Looking forward to hearing all about her! <3
