~Angel Baby~

I spent some time this afternoon with the sweetest angel baby.  She has the most calm and gentle demeanor - what a blessing!  She was pure sweetness and made my job super-easy. :-)

She recently turned one, so Mom and Dad wanted to commemorate the milestone with a Glimpse of Soul session.   It’s a big occasion; one minute they’re turning 1, next minute they’re turning 5, and so on.  That’s what I love about photography; you get to capture a moment in time, so that it’s more than just a memory.  As parents, we wish we could freeze time.  With each year that passes, we ask ourselves, “where did the time go?”  It goes and it goes fast.  But if we slow down and savor these sweet moments and milestones, we can look back at our photographs and retrieve our memories of all the blessings along the way.   My goal and intention with my photography is to capture fleeting moments in time, so when clients look back they can remember how much their children have changed and yet how they remain the same.

Mom and Dad, thank you for the opportunity to capture a glimpse of your angel baby’s sweet nature.  It was a pleasure and  I wish you many more years of happiness, smiles, and sweetness from watching her grow.

~Happy Mother’s Day! A Gift from a Thoughtful Father~

Being a mother is often a demanding  job that is way too often underappreciated.  It’s so easy to take what moms do for granted;  I guess it comes with the territory.  We’re used to caring for everyone, loving on everyone and it does come naturally.  However, it’s nice to feel appreciated.  It feels good when someone takes the time to say, “Hey, I’ve noticed how hard you’ve been working and I appreciate you.”

With that said, imagine how impressed I was when I received a phone call from a dad who wanted to coordinate a special session for his wife’s Mother’s Day gift.  This wonderful man coordinated a session for their two daughters, went shopping for new outfits for them, did their hair, and snuck them out to our session.  He said he felt like a fish out of water, but he did it with love!!  He is one of the most patient and loving dad’s I have ever met.  I was so impressed by his kind gesture to show his wife that she IS appreciated.  She must be an incredible mother and wife.

Take some time to remind all the women/mothers in your life this weekend (every weekend, for that matter) just how much they mean to you.  The smallest gestures go a LONG way.  Sometimes, a simple “thank you” is all we want to hear.

Happy Mother’s Day!

~Beautiful Chaos~

I always tell people that my life is full of “beautiful chaos.”  I say this because I’m a Mom, wife, and run two businesses, a home to manage, and mouths to feed.  I have 3 beautiful children who keep me on my toes, to say the least.  I think most families can relate to the demands of trying to juggle EVERYTHING and wanting to be awesome at everything.  There are some days where I can’t even catch my breath because the dog needs to be fed, my husband is calling to ask me a question from the office regarding paperwork, my son needs a permission slip signed for his field trip, my other son needs lunch money (which I forgot to give him the day before and he ended up eating the sack lunch from the cafeteria - how’s that for guilt), and then the baby girl needs her hair combed but is fighting me all the way.  Remember those commercials, “Calgon take me away!”  Throughout the day, I feel as if the chaos will never be under control.  But then at the end of the day, when everyone is tucked in bed, safe and together under the same roof, I know that the chaos is nothing short of beautiful.  It’s this beautiful chaos that is full of those fleeting moments like when your hubby brings you flowers and it’s not your birthday, your son tells you that you’re the greatest mom ever for volunteering at school, your other son thanks you for the one-on-one time you had with him and the baby girl looks cute-as-can be in her piggie tails.  Those are the moments I live for which wouldn’t be possible without the beautiful chaos.

This morning, I spent some time with this beautiful family.  They are made up of 3 handsome and energetic young boys, a cute little dog, a gorgeous mom and a team coach dad, a lovely home, and most important lots of love — all results of the beautiful chaos.

Thank you for allowing me to come into your home and spend time with all of you this morning.  It was a privilege to capture a Glimpse of all of your Souls.

~Sweet As Sugar~

I spent the morning with the sweetest little girl–petite, shy, and all sugar.   There’s just a sweetness to little girls that is almost tangible.  I learned this after having my daughter.  They bring this certain energy to a home that, truly, only a girl can bring.  I understand the “sugar and spice and everything nice saying,” now.  That’s not to say that boys are sweet and wonderful and amazing; I have two of them!  They’re just different but, needless to say, each of them bring something different to a family.  But, the sweetness of a little girl is what makes those big tough daddys’ melt and tear up when they think of their baby girls.

The way I met this baby girl’s mother is through an addiction of mine.  Yes, I admit it…my name is Eliza and I am a cupcake/cake addict.  A friend of mine referred me to her, so I asked if she would make my daughter’s birthday cake last December.  I have been HOOKED ever since.  She does beautiful work (truly an artist) and her creations taste just as wonderful as they look.  You should really check her out; her name is Candice and this is her site:  www.cakeiteasybakery.blogspot.com .   Shoot her an email and learn about her taste-testing party coming up next month; you’ll definetely want to be there! Oh, and tell her Eliza sent ya.  ;-)

In the end, I learned today that not only does Candice make the sweetest of cake creations; she makes the sweetest of baby girl creations.  Keep up the great work, Lady.

~Beauty~

The older I get, the more I appreciate my beauty.  Now, I REALLY appreciate the beauty I had at 18 and 21, but I appreciate the 34-year old me now too; it’s older, more overweight, I’m starting to wrinkle, but the big difference is now I know my worth.  I had very little confidence when I was at my fittest, thinnest, and youngest.  But, alas, I think that’s all part of growing up.

Today, I had a senior session with a beautiful high school senior.  She started out shy, but soon enough became more relaxed as we went along.  Everytime I meet one of these gorgeous girls I start to preach, preach, preach about how beautiful they are and how they should embrace it.  They probably want to yell, “just take the picture, Lady!”  I just feel obligated to encourage them to own their beauty, to stand confident, and to embrace all that they are.  Today’s young lady was a beauty indeed.  I hope when she sees these images she can see the beauty that I saw through my lens.

~Playtime~

For children, playtime is the best time of the day.  Even when they’re in school, if you ask them to name their favorite class, they will mostly likely say, “recess!”  It’s because children are born with an incredible amount of energy.  They jump out of their beds, ready to take on the world, ready to explore it, ready to go I wish I still had that kind of energy.

This morning I spent time with these adorable, energetic boys.  They were some of the “toughest and roughest” little guys I’ve ever met.     Mom was awesome: cool, calm, and collected; the perfect match for her beautiful, energetic sons.

Thank you for allowing me to spend time with all of you this morning.  It was truly a joy!

~Your Eyes Are the Windows To Heaven. Your Smile Could Heal a Million Souls~

To be able to witness the birth of a child is an incredible privilege.  The only way I can describe it is with a word that is way overused, “AMAZING.”  When you see a child enter the world you are left in awe and overwhelmed with emotion - awesome.

I believe everyone has the right to believe what they want; I respect all faiths, all beliefs, all religions.  You can call it God, The Universe, whatever.  But it is my personal belief, that there is a power greater than us, greater than we can ever imagine.  To witness and capture the birth of a child confirms that belief for me–that there is such an incredible power that makes these types of miracles happen–Amazing.

Today, I had the honor to witness a beautiful baby girl come into this world, to witness Life, to witness an angel coming into the world straight from heaven.  I am incredibly moved by the incredible miracle of giving birth.  What an amazing privilege!

There is a song by Amel Larrieux that I always used to sing to my daughter when she was born.  I love it because the artist dedicated it to her daughter and the words stir all sorts of emtions in my heart.  It says, “Your eyes are the windows to heaven, your smile could heal a million souls.  Your love completes my existence.  You’re the other half that makes me whole.  You’re the only other half that makes me whole.” (You need to google it if you’ve never heard it.  Make sure you have tissues nearby.)  I used to hear that song before having children, but after having them it takes on a whole different meaning for me.  They really are the other half that make a mother whole.

Thank you to this wonderful family for allowing me to witness the miracle of Life.  People can call the energy that is greater than us whatever they desire.  I prefer the term “God” and today I felt His presence in that delivery room.  Today I witnessed His miracles.  God is Good, God is Great, God is Love, God is EVERYWHERE

Happy Birthday, Sweet Girl and may your future be full of peace, love, joy & abundance.

{This is What Motherhood Looks Like}

You may recognize this gorgeous women from last summer.  Mom had booked me for a mini-session to photograph her beautiful daughter.  I was so excited when she called me back this time to book a full session for her whole family!  I had the opportunity to meet her handsome son this time too.

The whole family is a lot of fun.  There is a beautiful dynamic between Big Brother and Baby Sister and you can see the pride in mom’s face when she looks at her babies.  I chuckled at the way that baby girl wants to be a model and would direct ME!  :-)  Then I’d peek and see Mom joking around with her son.  You can also tell how much her boyfriend loves his beautiful woman and the awesome kiddos.  Overall, it was a wonderful afternoon.  Thank you, Mom, for allowing me to capture such beautiful images of all of you again.

And I can’t stop without asking, “Does she make motherhood look GORGEOUS?!?”

Keep doing your thing, Mama!

{Awesome Wonder - Part 1}

I remember when my kiddos were toddlers.  Everything was new to them.  They would put everything in their mouth, touch everything, and climb everywhere.  I was constantly chasing after them trying to make sure they didn’t get into anything that could hurt them.  It often left me exhausted and by the end of the day I felt like I ran a marathon.  But then, when they were snug and safe away in their cribs, I’d peek in and smile at how they looked like little angels.  I would often cry seeing them sleep, feeling somewhat guilty for being impatient with them throughout the day and for not taking the time to see life through their eyesI was caught up in “getting through the day“  while they were busy little bees “living for the day.”  It’s amazing the things that we can learn from children when we humble ourselves enough to see them as teachers.

This morning I spent time with a beautiful little girl who is full of Life.  We went to the park, a location I often shoot and where I like to run, but never have I seen the park the way she did.  I imagine through her eyes it was an absolute Wonderlandthe trees, the animals, the bridges, the people riding bikes.   There was nothing but giggles, smiles, and laughter when Mom & Dad would let her explore.  She ran through that park faster than any runner I’ve seen there–playing the game of Catch Me If You Can with all of us.  It made me nostalgic remembering my own babies.  Remembering that they only see this world through with that Awesome Wonder for a short, brief moment in time.  What a beautiful life we would have if we saw this world and appreciated its Awesome Wonder like her forever.

P.S.  You’ll see her again on here soon at her indoor shoot. ;-)

P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)

Today’s beautiful high school senior may not know that this is a Michael Jackson song from the 80’s.  I was talking to her about music at the session and realized I AM OFFICIALLY OLD!  ;-)  At the risk of sounding old again, I had to use this title because I felt it perfectly described her!  Some of you may have to visit YouTube after reading this post.  :-)

I had a GREAT time photographing her this afternoon.  She was accompanied by her lovely mother who looked more like her sister!  I was amazed at this young girl’s talent, intelligence, and beauty.  I only wish I would have been as confident and poised as she is when I was her age.  I enjoyed learning about how she TAUGHT HERSELF how to play guitar and what her plans are for the future.  Aww, to be young again and have the world at your hands.  It’s such an exciting time.  Enjoy it!

And thank you again, P.Y.T., for allowing me to capture your beautiful spirit.  May you follow your dreams and fullfill your greatest desires.  With that wonderfully supportive and loving Mom at your side, the sky is the limit!
